Surreal Photography has been around for a number of years and so, therefore, has changed just like communities and how people live, it has modernised. This is because if Surrealism didn't change it would become outdated and wouldn't be interested to the younger generation. Surreal Photographers like Man Ray, his work was based in the 1900's, whereas, a Surreal Photographer like Robert and Shana Parke-Harrison is based around the 2000's. They have changed because Man Ray's work has war based in there and Robert and Shana's work is more modernised with all the updated buildings and colours. Man Ray is, probably, the first surrealist photographer and so, therefore, the later photographers have been influenced by Man Ray's work.
Man Ray
Man Ray's Surreal Photography work was done in the 1900's and is all in black and white, this shows that his work is old. But although his work was done a few years ago and may be outdated, he has still managed to keep it interesting to the eye of the modern generation. He was also the first one to experiment with Surreal photography and so, therefore, is the main inspiration for the most updated Surreal Photographers.
I like Man Ray's work because because you can't mistake it from anything else other than Surreal. It is also unique and can't be copied fully because of how he creates the photographs. His work is interesting and eye-catching even in this modern day and age and so, therefore, other surreal photographers are going to look at his work for inspiration and guidance.
I don't think that I dislike anything about Man Ray's surreal work as it is strange, which fits into the Surreal category, and it is inspirational to future surreal photographers, because he is the first photographer to experiment with Surrealism.
I don't think that he could improve anything about his work, other than have some in colour but these were done in the early 1900's and so, therefore, he couldn't help that and so, therefore, his work is good the way it is.
I am going to be using some of Man Ray's style and technique when doing my Surreal Photography work, as well as other Surreal photographers. I will be using, for example the picture where the women looks like she is crying, I will be using this technique to make a person look like they are doing something but really they are not, like the glass tears on the face of the person. I will also be using the picture of the women that looks like her back is a violin, I will, again, be using this technique to make people look like different things.

Robert & Shana Parke-Harrison
Robert and Sharna Parke - Harrison's work is very surreal. The photographs shown above shows just some of their surreal work. I like their work because it is all based on the "Surreal" category and it sticks to it, not added images that are not relevant. I also like their work because they have made something unreal look like reality really well.
The one thing I don't like about their work is that most of their photographs are quite dull and there are not that many colourful ones. Although the do look like they should be old fashioned looking. I also don't like how some of the photographs are quite simple and they just didn't put much thought into the surrealism.
An improvement I would give them would be that I would like to see more colourful work like the little girl with the butterfly's around her. I would also put a bit more thought about surrealism into some of the photographs so that they don't look as plain.

J. K. Potter
J. K. Potter's work is very unique and surreal. It fits perfectly within the surreal category because all the photographs he has taken are not something that you see everyday, they are not in ordinary life, they are something that is in your imagination or dreams, they are unreal.
I like his work because he makes the none ordinary things seem real in everyday life and a lot of thought has been put into each and every image set up to make sure that everything unreal seems that it actually exists. I also like his work because there is a lot of detail within the layouts of the photographs rather than just have one thing in the background and then someone just stood there.
There is nothing I don't like about his work because it is not all the same, every photograph is different from the other.
One improvement I would make would be have bright colours here there and everywhere because, although they are colour photographs, they are dull but the dullness does go with the ghostly, surreal theme.

Hugh Kretschmer
Hugh Kretschmer's work is unique and different to other surreal photography I have seen and although I will not be mimicking his work, I still like how he has done these pictures.
I like his work because each photograph represents something, for example the man with a bubble on his head, shown above, could represent how people live in their own little bubble. I also like his work because a lot of thought has gone into how they will look at the end and a lot of thought has been put into what they are doing, for example the photograph of the nose and the handbags, shown above, shows that it is giving the bags the new smell that most people love.
There is nothing I do not like about his work because, again, a lot of effort and thought has been put into them so each image is different and makes sense with what is being shown in the image.
There is, however, one improvement I would make, which is that on most of the images there is a blue background and so, therefore, my improvement would be to use different backgrounds in each picture.

Rachael Koscica
Rachael Koscica's work fits in with the surreal theme because it makes unreal things seem ordinary, for example like the woman with antlers, shown above. I will be mimicking some of her work in my next task because I believe that it would be interesting to try and achieve what she has achieved in her images.
I like her work because it makes things seem real when, in fact, they are not. I also like her work because they show emotions and they don't just have the model looking at the camera smiling.
There is nothing I don't like about her work because each picture is different from the last and none of them are similar to another.
I do not have any improvements do give her work, shown above, because I do believe that she has achieved the surreal theme and that she has made each photograph different from the last one she took, rather than going with similar things from one photograph she took which would make them look similar.

M J Ticcino
M J Ticcino's work also fits in with the surreal theme because it makes unreal things look real and like they exist. I will not be mimicking his work in my next task but I do think that his work is imaginative and creative.
I like his work because it is unique and looks realistic, like it should be real. I also like his work because a lot of techniques have been used within the making of the photographs and not just in a couple, all of them have had the same amount of thought into them.
There is nothing I don't like about his work because, again, they are all different from each other and not one is similar to any other on there, shown above.
One improvement I would make would be that I would add some colour ones or add some colour to the ones, shown above, because they are all in the same sort of black and white or sepia kind of effect. Doing some in colour would break them down a bit more and make them even more different from each other because that is the only thing that links them together and makes them look like they have had the same techniques. But the effect does go with the surreal theme of the photographs.

George Christakis
Goerge Christakis' work is very unique and surreal and he has achieved the realistic feel to the photographs, which are shown above. I will be mimicking his work in my next task because I think that his work will be a real challenge to achieve even though I think that the surreal theme is a challenge already. I have chosen him to mimic in my next task because I like his work and I would like to achieve some of his pictures in order to make something unreal seem real.
I like his work because it has that surreal element all the way through each photograph, shown above. I also like his work because he has used many different techniques and effects in the final photograph, shown above, this shows that a lot of thought has gone into making the pictures look as surreal as possible by matching an effect with the image.
There is nothing I don't like about his work because, again, every photograph is different from the next and none of them have a similar idea to each other.
There is no improvements that I can give to his work because his work is inspirational and has a lot of techniques and effects within the style of the photographs as well as creativity and imagination in order to get these kind of ideas.

Martin Stranka
Martin Stranka is one of my favourite photographers and I will be mimicking his work in my next task for surreal photography. All his work fits in with the surreal theme and he has used many techniques to ensure that he has achieved the surreal theme. I do believe that it would be a challenge to try and mimic his work and this is one of the reasons why I would like to try and mimic it. I would also like to use his work in my next task because I would like to experiment with some of the techniques and effects he uses in order to progress in my photography.
I like his work because each picture is different to another and he doesn't spend a lot of time on one image and then just a few minutes on another, he makes image equally surreal as the last. I also like his work because the models he uses give emotion and feeling rather than just look at the camera constantly. I also like his work because it is eye catching and nothing in the background draws your attention away from the actual subject of the image.
There is nothing I don't like about his work as he makes each one different and uses his creativity and imagination in order to achieve his goals within the images.
There are no improvements that I can give because they are all different and he has used different effects and techniques in the photographs rather than go with the same idea in a few images and make the similar and less interesting.
